north towards the historic township of
Milparinka,
virtually a ghost town that was once the centre of a
thriving gold mining settlement. There is much to see
including Depot Glen and Pooles Grave. We then
head through remote back country to Cameron Corner,
where the 3 states meet. Here we check out the "Corner
Post" and enjoy a drink at the Corner Store. Overnight
accommodation at Cameron Corner. (LB,L,D)
Day 3: After travelling through Sturt NP, our
first stop this morning is the iconic outback town of Tibooburra.
After a good look around we then head to
White Cliffs,
Australia's oldest commercial opal field. Here we meet
some real outback characters, visit underground
dwellings and opal showrooms and try your luck noodling
for opal. Our accommodation tonight is at the famous
Underground Motel.

Day 4: After a hearty breakfast we travel
through Paroo-Darling National Park on our way to Tilpa
for a stop at the pub, which is about a hundred years
old and full of character. Continue on to enjoy some
more country hospitality at Trilby Station, which is an
historic 130,000 acre sheep station on the banks of the
Darling River. Overnight in either the cottages or
comfortable shearer's quarters.

Day 5: Follow the Darling River Run to Louth,
subject of one of Henry Lawson's poems. Arrive at the
historic river port of Bourke where we spend the morning
exploring some of the highlights of this unique outback
town. We then travel via Brewarrina on the way to
Lightening Ridge for our overnight stay in Motel
accommodation. Along the way we visit the famous
aboriginal fish traps, built 40,000 years ago.

Day 6: After breakfast it's all aboard to
explore the area, rich in opal, and famous
as the only place in the world where black opal is
mined. We check out local opal shops, art galleries, the
naturally heated thermal spring baths, the award winning
Black Queen, and even try your luck fossicking for the
elusive "colour". This afternoon we have an easy drive
via Gulargambone to Dubbo for trips end.
