We have designed this tour with the motto for
the Kimberleys in mind : "allow yourself the time".
There is so much to see and do here it’s just not worth rushing the
experience!
Day 1 –
Alice Springs to Tilmouth
Well Roadhouse: 193kms
This is a relatively short drive (in outback terms).
Heading north out of Alice we follow the northern slopes
of the
West MacDonnell Ranges as we head into the Tanami
Desert. Our first night is at the Tilmouth Well
Roadhouse. (L, D)
Day
2 – Tilmouth Well to Tanami Track camp: 416kms
Head north-west along the Tanami Track to our campsite
just past Rabbit Flat, stopping along the way for fuel
at Yuendumu Aboriginal community and a brief look at
Rabbit Flat Roadhouse. The whole day is spent driving
through the Tanami Desert. Tonight is our first night of

Day 3 – Tanami Track camp to Halls Creek: 455kms
It's back out onto the Tanami heading towards the
historic town of Halls Creek. A refuelling stop at
Billililuna Aboriginal Community, before we detour for a
look at
Wolfe Creek Crater, the second largest meteorite
crater in the world. Tonight’s accommodation in Halls
Creek is the Kimberley Hotel. (LB,L,D)
Day 4 – Halls Creek to Purnululu National Park:
160kms
We spend the morning exploring Old Halls Creek and
visiting the Walls of China. After restocking supplies
in town, we then drive appx 100km up the Great Nth
Highway to the turnoff to
Purnululu National Park. The drive into
our campsite at Wallaroo is appx 60km. This section of
our trip will take 2 – 3 hours to complete, is quite
rough and a 4wd with good clearance is needed. This area
is the home of the
Bungle Bungle Range. Enjoy a camp

Day 5 – Purnululu National Park
Wake up to the sound of
Corellas and spend the day
exploring the area. We start the day with a helicopter
flight over the Beehive Domes. There is the option to do
longer flights if you wish. After our flights, a walk
into the Beehives and then Cathedral Gorge to enjoy the
breath taking scenery. After lunch, we head up to Kurrajong Camp and a great walk into Echidna Chasm.

Day 6 – Purnululu NP to Kununurra: 260kms
Today’s drive is an easy one, with a lunch stop at
Turkey Creek along the way. There are spectacular views
of the surrounding ranges between here and
Kununurra.
We will be staying in air-conditioned cabins at Ivanhoe
Village Resort, which is only a short stroll from the
centre of Kununurra township. BBQ dinner tonight.

Day 7 – Kununurra
A rest day to do as you please! Kununurra has a variety
of activities for the traveller, cruises on the
Ord
River, fishing for the elusive "Barra" and much more! A
drive around the extensive farming area, great lookout,
check out the crocs at the causeway. Tag-along
participants may like to take this day to visit Lake
Argyle or do a
diamond mine tour. Tonight in cabins
again at Ivanhoe Village Resort. Before leaving Kununurra, if anyone wants alcoholic beverages to have
between here and
Derby, this is your last chance to buy
take-aways. (LB,L,D)
Day 8 – Kununurra to El Questro: 110km
A morning to explore the area around Kununurra,
including a walk through Hidden Valley National Park or a drive to
the Ivanhoe crossing. Then head along the
Gibb River
Road to arrive at
El Questro and to start exploring this
magnificent outback icon. Our campsite for two nights
here is called Black Cockatoo and is located on the
banks of the Pentacost River. (LB,L,D)
Day 9 – El Questro Station
El Questro Station, a 400,000 ha working cattle station,
has a diverse range of activities, ranging from
helicopter flights, boat trips and walking trails to
some of the best gorges to be found in the Kimberley
region. Today we start the morning with a dip in the
warm Zebeedee Springs, then visit Moonshine Gorge for a
refreshing swim and enjoy the walk into tranquil El
Questro Gorge with its 60m high towering cliffs. A late
afternoon cruise through Chamberlain Gorge with a glass
of champagne finishes off the day. Camping again tonight
with another great camp dinner. (LB,L,D)
Day 10 – El Questro to
Drysdale River Station:
275kms
An early start gets us back onto the Gibb River Road
heading west to our overnight camp at Drysdale River
Station. Drysdale River Station is a working cattle
station. After settling into our cabins for the night,
we will take a short drive to Miners Pool, which is
located 5km past the homestead on the banks of the
Drysdale River – a great spot for a refreshing swim.

Day 11- Drysdale River Station scenic flight – Mt
Elizabeth Station: 160kms
We start today with a 2 hour scenic flight over
spectacular coastal country completely inaccessible by
vehicle. Great views of the Drysdale River, Mt. Hann,
Prince Regent River, Kings Cascade, St. George Basin,
Prince Frederick Harbour, Mitchell Falls then along the
King Edward River back to the station. You may even
enjoy another swim in Miners Pool. After lunch we head
back down the Kalumburu Road turning west onto the Gibb
River Road towards Mt Elizabeth Station for our next
night of camping with another great camp dinner.

Day 12 – Mount Elizabeth Station to Silent Grove
Homestead
Mt Elizabeth has plenty of
Aboriginal rock art sites,
and this morning we will be doing a guided tour to look
at ancient Wandjina and Bradshaw rock paintings. We
leave Mt Elizabeth and head west along the Gibb River
Road to Silent Grove Homestead, which is our overnight
campsite. Along the way we stop to do a short walk into
Galvin Gorge. Camp dinner tonight.

Day 13 – Silent Grove Homestead to Windjana Gorge:
110kms
We start the day with a walk into Bell Gorge, one of the
more spectacular gorges accessible from the Gibb River
Road. With its cascading waterfalls, it provides a cool
relaxing place to swim and enjoy the rugged scenery of
the Kimberley. We then have a relatively short drive of
approx 110kms to
Windjana Gorge, and our next night of
camping is in Windjana Gorge National Park.

Day 14 – Windjana Gorge – Tunnel Creek – Fitzroy
Crossing: 140kms
The Gorge Walk (3.5km each way), or at least part of it,
is a great way to start the day. We then head towards
Tunnel Creek for an amazing walk through this watery
tunnel (make sure you bring a torch and old shoes for
walking in water). Aboriginal art can be found near the
northern entrance to the tunnel. We will arrive in
Fitzroy Crossing by early afternoon, which will allow us
to settle into our accommodation in safari tents at the
Fitzroy River Lodge. Dinner in the Lodge restaurant
tonight. (LB,L,D)
Day15 – Fitzroy Crossing – Derby: 250kms
This morning we take a cruise on
Geikie Gorge. The 1 ˝
hour cruise departs at 8am, and there is a chance of
spotting sharks, stingrays and crocodiles in the Gorge.
After lunch we take the easy drive on the
Great Northern
Highway to Derby, where we visit the Prison Tree, the
wharf area and grab some supplies. Then continue 15kms
out of town to Birdwood Downs station where we stay
overnight in their Savannah Huts.

Day 16 – Derby to Cape Leveque:
Today we head in the direction of Broome, then turn
north towards the remote and spectacular Cape Leveque.
We are here for two nights in beachside grass shelters
at the award winning
Kooljaman wilderness camp – this is
an experience you will never forget.

Day 17 – Cape Leveque:
This is a day to relax and do whatever takes your fancy.
Lots of optional activities such as 4wd cultural tours,
snorkelling, swimming, fishing and much more. When you
book we will give you a list of options to choose from
and we will book in advance. Or, you may wish to just
relax at our beachfront camp. We highly recommend a
scenic flight over the Horizontal Waterfalls and
Buccaneer Archipelago (activities at your cost).

Day 18 – Cape Leveque –
Broome: 214kms
This morning we head to Broome, where we will be
spending our last night together in luxury motel
accommodation. We will arrive in plenty of time to have
a good look around. Late afternoon we will head to
Roebuck Bay markets where we will enjoy the markets and
marvel at the ‘stairway to the moon’.
