| Day 1: Depart Broken Hill
8.30am and travel north towards the historic township of
Milparinka, virtually a ghost town that was once the
centre of a thriving gold mining settlement. There is
much to see including Depot Glen and Pooles Grave. We
then head through remote back country to
Cameron Corner.
Dinner and overnight accommodation at the Corner store.

Leaving Cameron Corner we
follow in the footsteps of Captain Starlight as we
travel along the
Strzelecki Track to Innamincka,
arriving mid afternoon. After settling into our rooms
take the time to check our Cooper Creek, and we highly
recommend taking the late afternoon river cruise. Dinner
at the pub. (LB,L,D)
Day 3: Travelling either via Cordillo Downs or
Walkers Crossing we head to
Birdsville
to prepare for
our desert crossing. Visits to the Diamantina River and
the famous pub are highlights. Accommodation in motel
style cabins for 2 nights. (LB,L,D)
Day 4: We start the day with a tour of the
remarkable ‘Working Museum’, the rest of the day is free
to relax, read a book or just wander around and soak up
the atmosphere of this great outback town.

Day 5: Leaving Birdsville we travel west to
start our desert crossing by first conquering ‘Big Red’,
the highest of more than 1130 sand dunes on our crossing
. Along the way we stop at Poeppels Corner, the junction
of Qld, SA and NT. Tonight is our first night bush
camping, with a delightful campfire cooked dinner.

Day 6: Another day of excitement as we
continue in our quest to traverse the
Simpson
Desert. Another
delightful overnight bush camp about midway across the
desert. (LB,L,D)
Day 7: Today we head further west to make camp
at Purni Bore. After establishing camp, enjoy a hot
shower then explore this oasis in the desert. As night
falls hear and maybe see the many dingoes, wild camels
and donkeys in the area. (LB,L,D)
Day 8: A highlight of today is a swim in the
warm pools at
Dalhousie Springs, then on to Mt Dare
homestead for dinner and accommodation.

Day 9: This morning we will travel to
Oodnadatta, stopping for morning tea near Eringa
waterhole along the way. Leaving Oodnadatta we travel
via Mt Barry to the opal mining town of
Coober Pedy for an
overnight stay. (LB,L,D)
Day 10: From Coober Pedy we follow the
Borefield Track to William Creek, stopping to view Lake
Cadibarrawirracanna. Leaving William Creek, we follow
the Oodnadatta Track to Marree, which is at the junction
of the
Birdsville Track. Tonight’s accommodation is in
cabins at the caravan park. (LB,L,D).
Day 11: From Marree we head south visiting
places of interest that include the ruins of Farina
township, Lyndhurst Ochre pits and Talc Alf (a real-life
outback character). Our destination is one of the
largest working sheep stations in the
Flinders Ranges.
Accommodation in historic stone shearers quarters.
Dinner is with the station owners.

Day 12: A highly recommended option to start
the day is an early morning scenic flight over
Wilpena
Pound. Then we travel through the southern Flinders to
Hawker then Orroroo, for lunch at Maggie’s Rendezvous.
Then continue on to Broken Hill for journeys end.
